This UK organisation's sole purpose is to find new homes for Border Terriers that, for many different reasons, need to be re-homed.  We are known to some people by our acronym BTW and to others as Border Terrier Rescue.

Welcome to BTW's second update.  Three weeks to the day since our previous update, as promised.  We have a few new pictures to show you, including the winner of the Best Rescue Border Terrier Shield!  Our history page has yet to be updated but it will in time become a fascinating read to all of you interested in BTW and its progress over the years.  You will notice our new page dedicated to dogs looking for a new home, which was included on the website since the last update.  If you have any suggestions for one of our next updates, please email us at info@borderterrierwelfare.org.uk

A note from a couple of key BTW members:

Border Terrier Welfare is a national organisation established to promote and, where necessary, provide for the care and rehoming of Border Terriers.  We currently rehouse approximately 100 dogs a year, these varying in age from 4 months to 12 years.  It is not our policy to rehouse puppies where the breeder of the puppy is prepared to do so.  However we do find occasionally that our help is needed.

We did expect and have found that the number of dogs needing to be rehoused has increased over the last 10 years, as the popularity of the breed has increased.  This trend is likely to continue as more people discover this delightful breed and we have an organisation in place that will cope with this increase.

Border Terrier Welfare is a Registered Charity (Reg No. 1116853) in the United Kingdom and is funded by donations and occasional fund raising events.  The continued operation and prosperity of the organisation is dependent on the people who volunteer to work within the organisation and our success is due wholly to them.

Should you wish to volunteer or help BTW in any other way, please contact your nearest Area Representative who, I am sure, will be pleased to hear from you.

John Evans, Chairman

My name is Diana O'Grady and I am called the Co-ordinator of BTW, which means that I keep the records of those who are looking for dogs and also those who are having to move their dogs to another home.  I can also help the Representatives across the country to find the most suitable homes.

I have owned a border terrier now for 48 years and at one time had about eight living in the house when I bred and showed.  We are now down to five of whom one is sixteen and the youngest four years old.  I have worked with Dog Clubs and Border Terrier Clubs over the years and enjoyed all aspects of the border terrier even though sometimes this can be a challenge.  I have been lucky enough to judge at intervals, which gives the privilege of going over some dogs with superb conformation.

I have worked for BTW for most of the time it has been in existence.  We are now busier than ever though the work has changed but so have most things.  The one thing that does not change is that the welfare of the dog is paramount to our work and always our first consideration.

Diana O'Grady, Co-ordinator
